Line Blanks - Paddle Blinds, Paddle Spacers and Spec Blinds
ASME B16.48 specifies the requirements for line blanks, also known as line blinds, used to isolate sections of piping systems for maintenance, safety, or operational purposes. These components are designed to fit between ASME B16.5 flanges and are essential for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of various industrial processes.
Key Features of ASME B16.48 Line Blanks:
Sizes and Pressure Classes: The standard covers line blanks in sizes ranging from NPS 1/2 through NPS 24, suitable for installation between flanges in the 150, 300, 600, 900, 1500, and 2500 pressure classes.
Types of Line Blanks:
- Figure-8 Blanks (Spectacle Blinds): These consist of a solid end and an open end connected by a web or tie bar, allowing for easy switching between open and closed positions.
- Paddle Blanks: Similar to the solid end of a figure-8 blank, these have a plain radial handle and are generally used in conjunction with a paddle spacer.
- Paddle Spacers: Resembling the open end of a figure-8 blank, these also feature a plain radial handle and are typically used alongside a paddle blank.Â
Materials: Line blanks are manufactured from various materials, including carbon steel, alloy steel, stainless steel, and other materials that meet the mechanical and chemical requirements specified by ASME.
